Pickup your luminaries...

Hello DECA,

Starting tomorrow morning I'll have the candles and paper bags in my driveway on a table pre-counted.  The sand is down at the end of Old Swedesford under a tarp.  Thanks for your patience as I get my act together this year.

  1. Check the papers on the table to see how many you need.
  2. Take candles and bags from our driveway ( keep paper bags away from the wet sand )
  3. Mark your name off!  ( otherwise we won't know who still needs them )
  4. Take 1 shovel full of sand per 10 luminary bags
  5. Set them out on your curb or nearby and light them at dusk on Christmas Eve.  "Cuff" the top of the bag to make them stand a little straighter.  ( If it is raining we will post pone to Christmas Day. )

Many people reach out and thank me for helping with this DECA tradition.  I'm happy to, but really so many people participate.  Whatever holiday you celebrate or don't celebrate, I wish you all the best :-)

From an old post...

Question: Anybody know how long we have been doing this? I think it has been something like 40 years.

Answer:  Bev Smith from Down East  "...luminaries started in Downeast in 1975 when Jerry Shea was president. He brought the idea from his home in Cleveland. And when you drove to the top of a General a Warren Village those were the only lights you could see :)"
