Getting to know your neighbors can provide a fascinating look into past lives.
Take, for example, two of our DECA neighbors, Donald Hagy and Charles "Chic" Chiccino.
We recently learned that Hagy was among the inaugural class inducted earlier this summer into the Lower Merion High School Baseball Hall of Fame. Hagy graduated in 1965 and pitched his way to an undefeated season his senior year. Not only could he throw some serious heat across home plate, he wielded a mean bat there as well. His senior year, he led the team in batting average at .465. His pitching continued after LMHS at Lafayette College.
And then, in the same block, we have Charles "Chic" Chiccino who lettered nine times and graduated with the last class of Tredyffrin-Eastown High School in 1954. He played as a fullback in football, a guard in basketball, and a catcher in baseball. He also served as class president.
He played as a "two-way" star in the heyday of West Chester football and later went on serve as head football coach at Downingtown High School until his retirement in 1997.
For all of this, Chiccino was inducted last month into the Chester County Sports Hall Of Fame. The CCSHoF is located in Exton at the Winner's Circle Sports Grille. He joined a list of individuals inducted since 2008 with stellar contributions to the world of sports that you can read more about via this link.
Congratulations to our neighbors for their excellent accomplishments.
