DECA Newsletter - December 2010

Seasons greetings from DECA!

Luminaries
  • DECA residents should light their luminaries at dusk on Christmas Eve 12/24/10. If you will not be home at this time, PLEASE arrange for a neighbor to light them for you. The display looks much nicer without gaps between houses. Thanks!
  • In the event of rain or heavy wind, luminaries will be lit on 12/25/10 instead. Check the website for updates - www.decainfo.blogspot.com

Dues Reminder
  • If you have not yet paid your DECA dues, please do so ASAP. Dues are $20 per household; $15 for seniors. Area reps please make sure any collected dues are returned to Patty Kolesar. Dues fund all our yearly activities and supplies.
  • If you do not participate in any DECA events just $5.00 will cover your luminary costs. Holiday luminaries are one event in which the whole neighborhood can participate. Everyone’s participation is greatly appreciated and will keep this tradition looking its best.

Voting today?

Bryan Kolesar from Hillside Drive passes these thoughts along...
When you vote today, you may notice something different. Our dearly and recently departed friend and neighbor from Kane Drive, Dave Argust, will not be there as a Judge of Elections.

This is just a friendly reminder that if you had considered not going to the polling place (People's Light) today, that maybe you should reconsider in honor of Dave's service to our community.

Down East Fall Fest: Phillies, fire and you...

I'm gonna sneak a message in here and hope I don't get in trouble from the president ;-)

Seems like all kinds of things are happening this weekend.  Phillies game, homecoming, golf...you name it.  Since it's right near our house I thought I'd offer to show the Phillies game on our fairly large 42" screen either in the living room or outside if I can manage that.  We'll also have a fire going if it isn't too windy.

So if you have a few minutes stop by.  Have a good day whatever you do :-)

Adam Beck

P.S. Oh, for those of you who like to try something new I also have a small amount of smoked beer from Victory on tap if you would like a taste.  I may tap some homemade hardcider too.

DUES

Dues – We are now collecting the annual dues. The rate is $20 per household; $15 for seniors. An optional $5 donation will help fund the Sunshine Club, which recognizes the comings and goings of Down East residents. This would include births and deaths, as well as moves into the neighborhood. When you return your dues, make sure to include a current email address to receive DECA info/updates online. This can be done on the DECA web page as well -- www.decainfo.blogspot.com. Thanks in advance for your support. Please drop off you dues to you neighborhood rep or drop them in my mailbox at 254 Swedesford Road.

If you chose not to participate in events and do not pay your dues, a $5.00 donation will be appreciated to help defray the cost of the luminaries that everyone enjoys.

Please submit your dues ASAP as we will need the funds to purchase luminaries in a few weeks.

Changing of the Guard

I would like to thank Maria Hueston and Chris Brown for over a decade of service as your Secretary and Treasurer. They have devoted a lot of time to this Association over the years. Their hard work and dedication to their neighbors has not gone unnoticed. They are truly great neighbors and have helped make this neighborhood a wonderful place to live. They are resigning from the board. Bryan and Patti Kolsar have graciously volunteered to take on these duties in the future. Thanks to our new Board Officers.

Sunshine
We are also looking for a neighbor to chair the Sunshine Committee. If you are interested, please let me know. Marylou Meehan has graciously handled this duty for the last several years. Marylou has done a wonderful job handling this duty and has been a welcome face for our new neighbors and ensures that we have recognized our neighbors in times of loss.

Grand Slam Camp

Hi,

My name is Randy Graham. I am a manager at Grand Slam USA. I grew up in Down East, my parents still live there. Jim and Linda Graham at 3 Wood ln.
I was wondering if I could get a link posted to advertise our grand slam summer camps. We do a one week baseball camp in August.. We are also starting a fun camp for girls and boys, ages 5-13.
We run the fun camp all day, but it is also available for half day starting at 11:30am. We designed the camp that way with local kids that already attend East Whiteland Township Camp in the morning.
The fun camp runs from June 28th thru July 30th. Children can sign up for the whole summer or as many weeks as they like.
I appreciate the time and if you are willing to post something for us I can send you a link and more details.
Thanks a lot!

Sincerely,
Randy Graham
