DECA NEWSLETTER – December 2009

Seasons greetings from DECA!

Luminaries – DECA reps may pick up luminary supplies on Saturday 12/19/09 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Roberts Road cul-de-sac. If you can not come at this time, please make arrangements with Janine Spiker (610) 644-1105 to pick up your supplies. Please remember to bring enough grocery bags for all the houses in your section, a marker to label your bags, and a scoop for the sand – preferably a small coffee can or sand shovel/pail.

DECA residents should light their luminaries at dusk on Christmas Eve 12/24/09. If you will not be home at this time, PLEASE arrange for a neighbor to light them for you. The display looks much nicer without gaps between houses. Thanks!

In the event of rain or heavy wind, luminaries will be lit on 12/25/09 instead. Check the website for updates.

Caroling – Will be on Wednesday 12/23/09 at 7:30 p.m. (weather permitting). If you are interested in joining in, RSVP to Chris Brown (610) 578-9028 or chrisbrown20@comcast.net.

Dues Reminder – If you have not yet paid your DECA dues, please do so ASAP. Dues are $20 per household; $15 for seniors. Area reps please make sure any collected dues are returned to Chris Brown. Dues fund all our yearly activities and supplies.

If you do not participate in any DECA events, a donation of $5.00 to cover luminary costs is greatly appreciated. Holiday luminaries is one event the whole neighborhood participates in.

DECA Wine & Cheese Party -- Save the date!
WHEN: 1/30/10
We are looking for a host for this event. If you are interested, please contact Karen Bevec (610) 651-5644 or mcbevec@comcast.net

Wishing you happy holidays and a great 2010!

Karen Bevec -- President

A General Wayne family needs your help....

Hello DECA Neighbors,

I wanted to let you know that this year the Save the Day 5k is helping out one of our own General Wayne families. Michael Strieb, husband and father of three, was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) in March, 2008. Since Michael’s diagnosis, he has experienced a steady progression of the disease. He is now limited to a wheelchair, needs assistance with everyday activities, and uses a speech assistance device to communicate. Michael and his wife, Christine, live in Malvern with their three children: Sarah (10), Alexander (8), and Elizabeth (2). Sarah and Alexander both attend General Wayne Elementary School.

The race is 9:00 on November 7th, at Sugartown El. School. Please check out the web site and register at:

http://savetheday5k.jimbemis.com/

There is a 1 mile walk/run as well as the 5k.
We are all so lucky that we are able to participate. I hope to see you there!

Thanks!
Lisa Beck

The Chester Valley Trail is Coming

The Chester Valley Trail is Coming

Currently the Chester County Commissioners are accepting bids for the completion of the bike trail through Down East. Construction is slated to begin as early as August!

Chris Gorman (20 Wood) has cleared the way with our corporate neighbor, Liberty Property Limited Partnership, to establish a trailhead linking Winding Way to the Chester Valley Trail. As part of his Eagle Project, Chris is organizing work parties to clear and clean the trail, construct a footbridge over a swale and construct and erect signage.

The first workday for the Down East Trailhead is Saturday, May 30th from 9 am. to 3 pm. All volunteers must register. For details, or to sign-up, contact Chris Gorman at 610-722-0724 or e-mail gormangang1@verison.net

Also, any donations towards building materials will be gratefully accepted.

DECA Newsletter - April 2009

DECA NEWSLETTER – April 2009
www.decainfo.blogspot.com

Welcome Spring! Here are some updates from the last DECA meeting on 3/29/09…

Save the date -- The annual DECA neighborhood picnic will be on Saturday, July 18, 2009 from 4:00 p.m. to dusk at the park. Details to follow.

Website update – To accommodate the growing number of requests to post ads for businesses & services, area/community events, etc., we are setting up a second DECA site. Those residents wishing to receive this type of information as well as regular, DECA-only updates will have the opportunity to “opt in” to this service. Look for an email with details shortly.

If you are currently receiving duplicate copies of the newsletter (hard copy and email), please notify Maria Hueston at CCML2002@aol.com to be removed from the hard copy distribution. We have made great strides in the effort to go paperless and want to continue in that direction. To sign up for e-delivery of the DECA newsletter visit www.decainfo.blogspot.com .

Yard Sale – Due to lack of participation last year, there will be no DECA yard sale this spring.

Courtesy Reminders
  • Please watch your speed while driving through the neighborhood. Warmer weather is here, which means more children playing outside and more people walking the neighborhood. Let’s keep it safe for all.
  • Please remember that any notices or flyers you distribute to other neighbors (for donations, happenings, etc.) should be signed with your name and address, as these do not come directly from the DECA Board. Thank you!
Thank you – To the Bevecs for hosting the wine & cheese party back in January. It was a fun evening!

Enjoy the spring!
Your DECA Board,
Karen Bevec -- President
Chris Brown – Treasurer
Maria Hueston -- Secretary
